Ongoing project
We are The Edo Indigenes In Diaspora UK Chapter, we have been building our informal support services for the last few years. We exist to support the well-being and social integration of Edo State indigenes and other African families in Peterborough and its surrounding areas. Through our planned new African Well-being & Social Families Project, we will host a series of engaging activities every Saturday over 39 weeks at the Herlington Community Centre.
The core activities of our project will be:
1. Enhanced Well-being: We aim to improve the mental and physical well-being of Edo and African families by offering services like stress management, health education, and promoting healthy diets through intercultural exchanges of food.
2. Cultural Showcase: Our project will serve as a platform to showcase and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Edo State and broader African traditions. This will foster pride in our heritage and promote cultural diversity within the local community.
3. Community Engagement and Education: Through educational initiatives, including digital English lessons, tutorials to support school subjects and intercultural dialogue, we seek to empower African youth and promote cross-cultural understanding among all community members.
4. Promotion of Community Cohesion: By engaging in these activities, we aim to strengthen bonds within the community and promote unity among Edo indigenes and other African families residing in Peterborough.
The benefits of our project extend beyond cultural enrichment. By providing these services, we envision a community where individuals are equipped with the necessary tools for personal development, while also fostering a greater sense of belonging and integration. People will gain confidence, it will reduce the sense of isolation and loneliness that many of our people feel and connect them to new networks.
