Report


This report provides an overview of the activities organised by the Edo Indigenes in the Diaspora using the Lottery Community Fund to support the community’s education, health, and well-being. The report covers the initiatives to promote academic excellence, healthy lifestyles, and mental health awareness among members and the broader community.


There are ongoing weekly math and English lessons that started in September 2024 and will run through April 2025. The Math and English lessons are provided for GCSE and Year 6 students.


Duration: Two hours per week.

Objective: To enhance academic performance and prepare students for key examinations.

Impact: Parents and students expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting confidence and academic ability improvements.


Healthy Eating Activities


Date: 20th July 2024

Activities Conducted: Discussion on nutrition and healthy eating.












Discussion on healthy traditional Edo recipes adapted for healthier living. Emphasis was placed on the benefits of fruits and vegetables, encouraging the consumption of five portions a day. Enlightenment on healthy eating, providing participants with samples of different fruits and vegetables. 


Outcome: Community members appreciated the focus on cultural and dietary awareness, with many pledging to adopt healthier eating habits.


Wellbeing Day


Date: 14th December 2024


Activities Conducted


Health Checks: Basic screenings, including blood pressure and BMI.











Tia Chi: Promoting physical activity and relaxation.












Mental Health Awareness Seminar: Topics included stress management and accessing mental health resources.


Feedback


Participants found the activities engaging and beneficial for their physical and mental well-being. Many requested more frequent events of a similar nature.


Community Feedback and Recommendations


  • Members found the activities interesting and impactful, with several expressing interest in additional events and workshops.


Suggested future activities include


  • Expanding educational support for students in other subjects.
  • Organising quarterly health and wellness events.
  • Hosting cultural programs to strengthen community ties.
  • Members and participants found cultural engagement interseting and recommended more of the activities in future.












Conclusion


The Lottery Community Fund has enabled the Edo Indigenes in Diaspora to organise impactful activities that address the community's educational, health, and well-being needs. These initiatives have fostered learning, healthier lifestyles, and mental health awareness. Continued support will help sustain and expand these vital programs.
